Students In Korea Walk for Tsunami

Christian Middle School Students Raise Funds During Five-Day Walk
SEOUL, 25th July 2005: Students and teachers from the Eagle Christian Middle School made a five-day ãwalking pilgrimageä to raise money for victims of last Decemberâs tsunami.
The 57 students, aged 13 to 15,and their 10 teachers walked along Koreaâs western coastline through Boryeong, Seocheon, Buyeo and Nonsan in Choongcheongnam-Do province.

The students, sponsored by friends, parents and relatives raised more than 9.1 million Won (about US$9,000) and donated the money to Habitat for Humanity Korea for Habitatâs tsunami-rebuilding work.

The 102-kilometer route took five days to complete.
ãThe Îwalking pilgrimageâ was inspired by a desire to learn about the greatness of Mother Nature created by God,ä said teacher Dongjoon Jang, adding that the walk also aimed to build fortitude and an ability to look after oneself.
ãThe students decided to donate the funds to Habitat to put their love into action.ä
The Eagle Christian School is located in Bundang, a suburb of Seoul.
Students from the Eagle Christian High School plan to work on the Global Village Program in Philippines coming October.
