Different cultures follow diverse approaches to spirituality, life, death and suffering. There is a need for sensitivity to these cultural, religious, and philosophical diversities. In the aftermath of disastrous events, this kind of cultural and spiritual diversity can be very apparent. It is also a time when it is increasingly important to recognise the significance of different value systems, customs and rites of passage.

Buddhism: Starting from its basic teaching "arising through causation (Pratityasamutpada)", believes that all things are naturally formed from causes and condition (Hetupratyaya), man is also the combination from Five Classifications (Pancaskandha), under given conditions and the result of ignorance (Avidya). Islam: The main two tenets of Islam are submission and peace. This means total submission to and acceptance of the One and Only God (Allah) and His will. Peace means inner peace (peace with oneself), peace with the Creator, as well as peace with all creations. It is through the total submission to the will of God that one reaches this form of peace.
