Habitat for Humanity has put together comprehensive plans for reconstruction in four tsunami-affected countries. Building on established regional networks, and extensive experience in each of the areas, Habitat has been able to determine immediate and longer-term local requirements.

Aid is now being channeled to meet these needs. Habitat is ready to commence reconstruction in Sri Lanka, India, Indonesia and Thailand.

Planning for the future

Habitat is assessing real needs in specific areas affected, donor strategies, and how HFHI can best deploy its resources. Habitat is also planning how to deploy spacialist volunteer teams for specific reconstruction projects. There are also discussions underway about how to use the regularly scheduled Global Village teams due to be in India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Thailand.

How to donate

Donors to Habitat for Humanity's Asian Tsunami fund now have the option of donating to specific affected countries:

The best option is for donors - individuals or organizations - to give to the general Asia Tsunami Response Fund - code S6605. This gives greater flexibility in allocating money to where it
is best needed.

If donors would like to assist specific affiliates, the way to do that is through the regular affiliate fund codes.
