Habitat for Humanity
International began working in the Asia-Pacific region
in 1983 with
a pilot program in India. The organization has built,
renovated and repaired more than 34,000 homes since then.
Some 170,000 people around the region today have better
accommodation thanks to Habitat for Humanity.

In the past 12 months, Habitat India built its 10,000th
house, The Philippines passed the 11,800-house mark, Sri
Lanka passed the 5,000-house mark and the 1,100th home
was built in Papua New Guinea.
Habitat for Humanity manages an Asia-Pacific mortgage
loan portfolio valued at more than US$29 million.
Habitat for Humanity operates in 27– soon to be
30 – countries and territories: Afghanistan, Australia,
Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, East Timor, Fiji, Guam, Hong
Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mongolia,
Nepal, New Zealand, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines,
Samoa, Singapore, Solomon Islands, Sri Lanka, Thailand,
Vanuatu and Vietnam. Plans are in hand to become active
in Laos, Micronesia and Myanmar.
In Japan, Singapore and Hong Kong, Habitat is involved
in fund-raising, advocacy, organizing volunteers and other
non-building activities.
