| Decent housing is a vital stage in
for people reaching out of poverty. Habitat For Humanity
works with other like-minded groups in its mission to
alleviate poverty, contributing experience and expertise
in housing and construction.
Since operations in Asia-Pacific region began more than
two decades ago, Habitat has collaborated with a range
of organizations in a variety of formal and less formal
relationships. Habitat’s own experience is that significant
benefits flow from teaming up with non-governmental
organizations , corporations,
public bodies and
other groups.
HFHI has long had a relationship with Word
Vision an international Christian relief and development
organization that works to promote the well being of
all people - especially children.
Habitat’s “Save and Build” model is being adapted and
strengthened through co-operation with organization
that specialize in micro-credit. In the Philippines,
Habitat is working with Center for Community Transformation,
a micro-finance organization with a network of some
30,000 clients. In Indonesia, Habitat is partnering
with Opportunity
International, a global micro-finance group that
funds job-creation programs.
By working with others, Habitat extends its mission
effectively and quickly. It accesses greater numbers
of families in need, and is able to build and rehabilitate
larger numbers of homes. Partners benefit by being able
to offer accommodation and shelter a proven component
in changing lives to those they target: the poor, the
weak, the frail, the marginalized, the destitute, the
desperate.
Overcoming hardship in today’s complex, interdependent
world requires innovation and flexibility. No one solution,
no-one organization, has all the answers in the fight
against poverty. Forming dynamic practical alliances
allows participants to extend their influence, share
experiences, leverage resources and avoid unnecessary
pitfalls.
Habitat welcomes the opportunity to work with partners,
contributing its proficiency and knowledge in housing
and construction, to alleviate poverty and transform
lives.
