About Community Youth
Groups
Community Youth Groups are unincorporated youth-led, and
youth-run organizations of Habitat for Humanity. They
are composed of diverse representation from the local
community such as youth leaders from schools, churches,
businesses, home-partner youth associations and other
youth service organizations.
Groups work in partnership with a local affiliate ((link
to affiliates)) in building, educating, fund-raising,
community development and spearheading youth leadership
development. An affiliate is an independent, locally-run,
non-profit volunteer group. Each affiliate organizes
fund-raising and donations of materials; house construction
using volunteers and, where appropriate, paid specialist
construction workers; as well as mortgage repayments.
A Community Youth Group essentially operates as the
ãyouth wingä of an affiliate, and a HFH affiliate staff
person acts as an adviser to the group. A group is expected
to work in partnership with the affiliate, following
fund-raising guidelines developed by Habitat for Humanity
International.
There are five Community Youth Groups operating in the
Asia-Pacific region. Four are in the Philippines and
one in Indonesia.
